Anapanasati - Mindfulness of Breathing

Dates: February 28th to May 8th, 2016

Description: A small group of 16 students will meet once a week during the 10-week program to explore the teachings and practices within Mindfulness of Breathing sutta (MN118). With this one teaching the Buddha covered the entire scope of his teachings. We will focus on these teachings as a step by step path of greater purification and freedom within the body, heart and mind.

This Program consists of four daylong retreats, one weekly class, and up to four private meetings with the teacher during the program.
Daylongs from 9:45am-6pm on Sundays 2/28, 3/20, 4/10 and 5/8
Wednesday classes from 7pm-9pm in Berkeley
Cost: $950-$750 sliding scale (work scholarships offered for those with lower incomes)
Prerequisites: At least two silent week-long mindfulness, insight or loving-kindness retreat within the last five years.

Tempel Smith began practicing intensive Insight and Metta retreats in 1989 under the guidance of Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein and Michele McDonald. He spent a year as a monk in Burma with Sayadaw U Pandita and Pa Auk Sayadaw, and has been teaching since 1997. He is the founder of BASE House, a collective of Buddhist activists and service providers. Tempel is on the Teachers Council at Spirit Rock, and leads the SRMC Dedicated Practitioner Program.
